This site is a tribute to Mavis Maureen Gibbs. She is much loved and will always be remembered.
Mavis was born in Ilford Essex in 1926 to Eva & Walter Marfleet, being the youngest of their 3 children. Mavis loved to do ballet, loved animals, and one day even came home with a little stray white Terrier who they named Fluff. The dog was so very loved, and became so part of the family he went everywhere with them.
During the war years, she was evacuated to North Wales to live with an aunt and uncle. They spent many happy times together - including learning how to fish, outings to the beach, and of course Mavis loved all the wonderments of nature.
In 1948 she married Robert Gibbs and went on to have 3 children of her own, 2 of which were sadly disabled. Nonetheless she was a devoted mother, they were truly loved and adored, and it was a very happy unit.
In Mavis’s latter years she lived alone and although her 2 disabled children had long passed away she continued to take out local children from her neighbourhood who’d rarely had opportunity to visit the countryside. She’d observe them happily playing in the streams having lots of fun. Picnics always followed and they always went home with happy stories for mum and dad!
Mavis absolutely loved bird life, and had several boxes put up at her home in order to encourage nesting, and observed them with much interest and joy. She also had a tortoise named Toby for 40 odd years, who she’d happily feed cucumber, apple and lettuce.
Now she has departed this life, is in the Lords hands, and joyfully reunited with her dearly departed children Ashley and Madelaine.
God bless her.
Thank you for looking after my Gran in her last years. No amount of money can buy the care you have given. I trust my donation will contribute to the benefit of all at the Hospice. Thank you. James
